Various uses of Shilajit

Previously we have touched upon various topics in our blog in which we discussed the effect of shilajit on human organs like the heart, and teeth and in medical conditions like those of blood, brain, etc. Moreover, we talked about how shilajit will benefit people in sports and how women can gain benefits from shilajit. But there is still a lot more to shilajit and let us dig a little deeper. Shilajit has other uses as well along with oral intake which we hinted upon in shilajit for women and will discuss in detail here.

Shilajit as a supplement

The primary use of shilajit has undoubtedly been an oral supplement. Shilajit is a natural substance found mainly in the Himalayas. Emanating from sedimentary rocks (largely in the Himalayas) shilajit is a pale-brown to blackish-brown resin, composed of rock humus, rock minerals,
and organic substances that have been compressed by layers of rock mixed with marine organisms and microbial metabolites. Known to carry the healing power of these great mountains, shilajit has been used for over 3,000 years as a rejuvenator and adaptogen in a variety of conditions. Interestingly, the Sanskrit meaning of shilajit is “Conqueror of mountain and destroyer of weakness”. Shilajit has been attributed with many miraculous healing properties.

It is a better practice to always administer supplements according to instructions. There is no single standard of recommended dosing for shilajit that applies to everyone. 300 to 500mg per day of Shilajit is generally considered sufficient and effective. The right dose for you may depend on your age, your
current state of health, and the desired benefit. It can be dissolved in liquid, milk, or water and can be taken every day. If you decide to dissolve it in warm water, then you should expect a bitter taste of the beverage, and while this doesn’t bother most coffee and other bitter drink lovers, it can be a bit off-
putting for some. To avoid this, simply add ghee, coconut butter, cinnamon, or honey to the solution. This makes it much easier to drink and also a bit healthier, which is never a bad thing. Consumed like this, Shilajit can benefit many areas from cognitive functions to basic body functions.

Shilajit in skincare

Since we’re looking for different uses of Shilajit, skin care is only the next logical step. Its many useful properties can be used for a nice skin-pilling, particularly in the face area. If you want to try it, make sure to steam your skin with a hot compress and then apply a facial mask of Shilajit. Also, make sure you bypass the area around your eyes since the skin there is much more sensitive. The active time of the procedure is about half an hour. Remove the Shilajit face mask with warm water and because it dissolves this way quickly, there’s no need for the painful removal that many similar products suffer from. Alternatively, you can use warm chamomile broth that itself has skin-cleansing properties. Numerous users reported that it can have a rejuvenating and cleansing effect on your skin. It can also be easily maintained with regular use. Some people even report the anti-wrinkle effect.

Shilajit for Hair Care

It’s been researched and confirmed that Shilajit contains 85 ionic minerals, nutrients, and other compounds that can be beneficial for the body. Most of these have a positive effect on the growth and overall health of human hair. Since some elements in Shilajit could also support hair growth, let us see how you can use Shilajit for hair in the form of a mask: one of the methods is mixing Shilajit and honey with a quality emulator like olive oil or even eggs. The choice here is entirely yours since it can be applied in a variety of ways.
⦁ Make a mask by mixing Shilajit with a tablespoon of honey, 2 eggs, and 1 gram of Shilajit resin. Apply the mask to the hair and massage in a circular motion on the hair roots. Leave for an hour and wash off with lukewarm water and shampoo. You can do this every week, or if you have time constraints, try and do it at least once a month. You can leave it on for anywhere between 30 min to 1 hour. Then just rinse with warm water and it’s done. It’s been reported that it can help improve hair growth, minimize hair loss, and make them stronger. This can be done once a month or weekly, depending on your needs.
⦁ Another mask that you can try with Shilajit for hair is by mixing two mashed bananas, one egg, two tablespoons of yogurt, 1 gram of Shilajit resin, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mash all the ingredients into a pulpy texture, add some olive oil and uniformly apply all over the head, including the roots. Comb through the mask after 30 minutes. Wait for another half hour and then wash off with lukewarm water and shampoo.

Conclusion

Shilajit is formed when organic compounds like flora and fauna get trapped in between the mountain rocks and start to decompose in nature. Not only is Shilajit used for many known illnesses and overall human health, but it also helps in hair growth as well as skin issues that trouble us all. Shilajit has been an integral part of the Ayurvedic tradition since before forever and the credence of this phenomenal compound is now seeping its usage into the western medicinal world. When you buy Shilajit, make sure you buy the most organic and potent version available, which is in the resinous form. Not only is this easier to consume, but also is the most unadulterated version present.
